Sculptra

Sculptra is a proprietary formulation of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that is an FDA-approved dermal filler manufactured by Dermik Laboratories, which conducts the North American business of Aventis Dermatology, the global dermatology unit of Aventis.

This is a new generation filler. The preparation is based on polylactic acid. Having reached the deep layers of the dermis, it activates the production of collagen, leading to noticeably increased elasticity of the skin, smoothed wrinkles and a better contour. Consistent use results in a cumulative rejuvenation effect. Sculptra helps correct the face contour and eliminate numerous aesthetic defects with little to no risk, and the result looks natural and lasts long.

Use:

The preparation is used to add volume to atrophic areas, including the correction of skin defects such as folds, wrinkles, furrows, scars and age-related changes. It is suitable for the correction of large areas of the face with signs of loss of fatty tissue.

Areas of Sculptra application:

  • Jawline,
  • Cheeks,
  • The area near the auricle, which is the first to show signs of aging,
  • Loose jowls,
  • The chin area along the jawline,
  • Temples,
  • Midcheek groove,
  • Nasolabial folds,
  • Lower jaw, and
  • Chin fold.

Benefits of Sculptra:

  • It works in the deep layers of the skin, stimulating the intensive natural production of collagen,
  • Strengthens the internal structure of the skin and restores its density,
  • The effect is cumulative and lasts for more than two years, and
  • It does not result in puffiness, because polylactic acid does not attract water.

Indications for use of the SCULPTRA biostimulator:

  • Decreased elasticity and/or deterioration of the skin condition (flabbiness),
  • Moderate amounts of excess skin,
  • Loss (lack) of fatty tissue at the treatment site,
  • Fading (withering) skin,
  • Lipoatrophy,
  • Face asymmetry,
  • Scars, and
  • Stretch marks in the body area.

How Sculptra works:

In general, Sculptra administration takes about 2-2.5 hours. Most often, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia to relieve discomfort. Redness of the skin after the procedure disappears within a few hours, local swelling from injections disappears in 1-5 days, hematomas dissolve in 7-14 days. Results become visible gradually during the treatment course (usually three injections over three to four months) and can last up to two years.

 Contraindications:

  • Blood clotting or other circulatory system disorders,
  • Malignant neoplasms,
  • Inflammation at the treatment site,
  • Predisposition to keloids,
  • Pregnancy and lactation, and
  • Permanent implants at the treatment area.

The procedure is performed by an RN/BSN certified MICHELLE AESTOX specialist.
